Spanish star gradings 1 to 5 usually pertain to hotels and aparthotels, whilst key gradings 1 to 4 (although 5 star/key is often used for aparthotels) are still used for self catering apartments, villas and bungalows. In a one star Bendidorm, Lloret de Mar, Salou or other Spanish resort hotel expect the basics only with a basic room and an en-suite shower. Don't necessarily expect air conditioning and extra facilities with both 1 and 2 star/key Spanish accommodation, although in the resorts even 1 and 2 star accommodation will often have air conditioning, saellite TV and swimming pool.

Move upto two stars and facilities increase usually to include a telephone in your room, perhaps a mini bar and also airconditioning and heating.
