Cities Tourism Guide - Cheap Flights Barcelona

Barcelona Airport is one of Spain's busiest, and indeed today it's a European hub airport. Situated just 3km from Barcelona port and 12km from Barcelona City Centre to the south west of Barcelona, the airport is entrance for not just the huge number of international and national visitors to Barcelona but also visitors heading for the Costa Dorada and in some cases the Costa Brava resorts (although Girona Airport takes now most of the weight of Costa Brava visitors).

Numerous airlines fly to Barcelona Airport direct from most UK airports including cheap flights from London Heathrow to Barcelona, cheap flights Glasgow to Barcelona and direct flights from Liverpool to Barcelona. (see the airlines listings on Barcelona Airport's weblink right).

Cheap Flights Barcelona, Barcelona Airport, Car Hire Barcelona

Barcelona Airport's passenger traffic has just more than doubled between 1997 and 2007, and is set to increase further. At 2006 annual passengers passing through had overtaken the 30 million mark. Needless to say, terminal extensions are underway at Barcelona, one of Spain's busiest Airports.

The choice of cheap flights to Barcelona often depends on timing - during popular holiday periods like school holidays and holiday weekends flight prices can increase. (contact the Iknow Holidays Booking team for assistance, as sometimes if you're flexible over a few days you're likely to get a cheaper rate!) See also Cheap Flights Barcelona weblink for flight comparisons to Barcelona online. Taxis from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona city centre are cheap (find yellow taxis outside all the terminal buildings). Give yourself plenty of time if you're returning from Barcelona city centre to Barcelona Airport to catch a flight. Watch for rush-hour periods in Barcelona and the surrounding motorway network. Barcelona city centre is heavily congested with traffic from around 7am to 10am and in the evening from around 4.30pm to 7pm. Traffic in Barcelona is busy always, but occasionally changes to gridlock, especially around Monument Colon during these peak periods.

Numerous European and International Airlines serve Barcelona Airport, including a number of budget UK airlines like Jet2, Monarch, BMI Baby and ThomsonFly. Most of the bigger UK Airports fly direct to popular Barcelona now, serving demand. Contact Iknow Holiday booking line for assistance or see Open Jet Cheap Flights to Barcelona weblink right. Buses run direct from Barcelona Airport to Plaza de Catalunya at the top end of Las Ramblas every 7 to 15 minutes, so busing into Barcelona city centre is a good option for visitors with a small amount of luggage, and cheap too. The local line 10 train link hooks into Barcelona Metro and takes you into the city centre in around 32 minutes. (see the Barcelona Airport/getting to weblink right for more details, and Barcelona TMB Metro/buses webguide info).

Barcelona Cheap car rental couldn't be easier from Barcelona Airport. Numerous big car hire companies serve Barcelona Airport. (see Holiday Autos car rental Barcelona weblink right for the best deals). Booking Barcelona car rental before you visit is highly recommended. Barcelona is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world, so demand for car hire is high. If you based just in Barcelona city centre car hire is less needed, as getting out and about is made easy by Barcelona's choice of excellent public transport including metro, bus, taxi, tram and local railway links from Catalunya to push out further to Sitges, Girona and elsewhere. For bus services from Girona Airport to Barcelona see the weblink right for details.

Barcelona Port, Ferry from Barcelona

Barcelona's busy port has ferries to numerous destinations including Mallorca and the Balearic Islands, Genoa, Rome and Algiers-Oran. It's more than feasible to split a two week holiday, with say one week in Barcelona and one in one of the Balearic Islands (Ibiza is the nearest to Barcelona). See the Barcelona Ferry booking weblink right for bookings, or contact Iknow Holidays booking line direct for assistance. Fly direct to Barcelona, and fly back from either Mallorca or Ibiza.

Barcelona Weather, Barcelona Weather Forecast

With its typical warm Mediterranean climate, Barcelona makes for a pleasant city break all year round. This combined with its many tourist attractions and 5km of urban beach area at Barceloneta makes it a perfect holiday destination.

Average mean temperatures per month in centigrade are Jan 10, Feb 13, March 13, April 14, May 18, June 21, July 25, August 25, September 22, October 18, November 16 and December 12 degrees centigrade.

Rainfall averages out at 1000mm a year, mostly around the late October through winter period. During peak summer months rainfall certainly isn't generally on the menu. For up-to-date weather reports in Barcelona, and for 5 day weather forecasts for Barcelona see the excellent Barcelona Tourism webguide right for details (in Practical Guide Section).
