Lloret de Mar on Spain's most northern resort coastal stretch - the Costa Brava - is one of the liveliest and most fun-packed resorts on the Costas. Lloret's attractions are numerous including two main superb blue flag beaches (Fenals & Lloret Playa are the main two, but Lloret has around 7km of coastline with a mix of 5 beaches some of which are small character rocky coves), a variety of beach watersports available, a local mammoth waterpark, a huge choice of Lloret discos, bars, restaurants, shops, fast food outlets and amusement arcades and a range of accommodation options from budget to luxury, and self catering to Lloret hotels.
Lloret de Mar is certainly the main resort hub on the Costa Brava. Lloret's privileged position just 70km North of Barcelona and 34 km South East of Girona (and Girona Airport which serves the resort), makes it not only a bustling beach family resort base but also means you've easy access to some superb excursions. Public transport in and out of Lloret is excellent, with cheap tourist buses running regularly now to both Barcelona and Girona, and Figures and the Dali museum further north! Lloret is where you come to party and get active! This Costa Brava resort has a superb nightlife scene, perfect for stag or hen dos, plus one of the best choice of watersports on the Costas including great diving off its mix of rocky cove and sandy beach coast. Look to Tossa De Mar for a quieter beach base.
Lloret de Mar's history as a popular international budget holiday resort base is long. Lloret was one of the first in the late 1950s, alongside Majorca, to open its doors as a resort base (the Franco Regime was looking to bring money into the area so Lloret and Majorca were to be the first resort test cases). Lloret today has a real international mix of visitors - it's popular with young Spanish, the French and British holidaymakers. Budget beach holidays with a choice of holiday attractions don't come much better than Lloret. The Catalonia area around Lloret is also beautifully green - if you're out and about on the winding roads you'll spot a fair few bikers enjoying the ride. Just the coastal drive between Lloret and Tossa De Mar gives you a flavour of the stunning scenery, both coastal and inland, in the area, and if you've car hire from Girona Airport take the GI681 road up from Tossa de Mar for a stunning drive. A choice of walking and hiking trails are available on the Lloret de Mar Official tourist guide weblink right.
Lloret de Mar resort is a story of two halves, a little like Benidorm only the promontory spliting Lloret's two halves is bigger, rockier and green. To the south sits Platja De Fenals, a long sweeping blue flag beach serviced by its own grouping of Lloret hotels and accommodation, plus bars, low key restaurants and watersports. Fenals beach area is slighting quieter than main beach Platja De Lloret and popular with families or those looking for less hustle and bustle. Llorets main beach and centre - Platja De Lloret sits adjacent to town centre shops, bars, restaurants, fast food restaurants and more.
Lloret main beach is the central hub for watersports - everything from flyfish water rides to pedaloes and water skiing. There's also volleyball nets along this beach and a long Paseo Maritimo lined with bars, restaurants, shops and ice cream kiosks. Definitely a lot more lively this end than Fenals beach area, which is backed on by pretty green pines. So take you pick in Lloret from a quiet base close to the action, or in the heart of the action around Platja de Lloret.

Car hire from Girona Airport isn't the only way to get about along the Costa Brava coast and into inland Catalonia! The best way to see the Costa Brava coast, and hop on and off at will, is by boat.
Two companies in particular - Dofi Jet Boats and Viajes Maritimos offer boat trips from Lloret and other main resorts along the coast including Tossa, Blanes and Playa D'Aro. (see weblink right for Dofi). The boats pull right up onto the beaches of each Costa Brava resort, and it's your choice whether you say hop off at Tossa de Mar and have a look round, or stay on and take the whole coastal tour of the striking beach bay/rocky cliff Costa Brava coast mix. You'll find booking kiosks on both Lloret's main beach and at Fenals beach for booking boat trips with Dofi and Viajes Maritimos. For Dofi see weblink right, for Viajes Maritimos tel. 616 90 91 00/972 36 90 95.
A number of urban buses push regularly around and out of Lloret (see the Lloret de Mar official tourist guide right for full timetables). Regular routes through the day in the Summer season include buses between Lloret centre and Fenals and Lloret to Canyelles.
From June to September the open top Cabriolet Tourist bus whisks visitors between Lloret's two main beaches, between Lloret and Tossa de Mar and back again. (see Lloret Tourist webguide for timetable). A favourite for families too is the Lloret tourist mini train which has pickups at Puig de Castellet, Castell de Sant Joan, Santa Clotilde and Fenals and Lloret main beaches. On foot is also a great way to explore the immediate Lloret area, made easy by the scenic coastal path running from Lloret's Maritime Museum to Fenals beach taking in not just the sublime coastal scenery of the promontory between Lloret town and Fenals beach, but also a number of sights including the Fisherman's wife monument and the Castle of Sant Joan.
