As capital of Costa del Golf, Malaga certainly sets the tone. Malaga has a superb choice of first class golf courses within its vicinity, with a host more Costa Del Sol Golf courses west around Mijas and Fuengirola. You've both golf and culture to hand based here in Malaga. Malaga's Jardin Botanico La Concepcion - subtropical and tropical gardens - are situated just 4km to the north of the city centre and well worth a detour. Of great historical importance, the botanical gardens here date from 1855 and are home to one of Europe's finest collection of palm trees.
Malaga also has a choice of urban and more remote beaches (including a nudist beach) stretching along its coastline. Some of Malaga's beaches also have blue flag status, and this combined with a superb choice of watersports offered by marina clubs El Candado and Real Club Mediterraneo and you have a recipe for superb leisure opportunities here in Malaga, often too away from the more crowded beach and leisure marinas further west on the Costa Del Sol.

Just to the east of Malaga, Rincon de la Victoria also offers more golf. Just 10 minutes from Malaga city is Parador de Malaga Golf, the oldest golf course in Andalusia, but its changed with the times this Costa Del Sol golf course and today offers a luxury golf setting. With its superb location by the sea, midway between Torremolinos and Malaga, Real Club de Campo de Malaga Golf club is one of the most popular golf courses in the area. You might not immediately think of Malaga City as offering beach holiday potential, but it does, and what's more the beaches lining Malaga's coast are a little quieter, some isolated, than the main Costa Del Sol nearby resorts. Right next to Malaga's promenade sits Banos Del Carmen Beach with parking, dark sand and security surveillance. An urban beach that never gets crowded it's a pretty little beach. Move a little west near Parador de Golf and you'll find San Julian Beach, quiet and a popular nudist beach.
Malaga has numerous beaches stretch both east and west of its coastline from the main port. Particularly popular are those to the east - Playa de Pedregalejo and Playa del Palo. La Malagueta city beach running along the Levante breakwater is busy and has Blue Flag Satus with numerous facilities including restaurant, toilets, showers, lifeguards and kids play area with nearby Mediterraneo Yacht club. Malaga' La Concepcion Historical Botanical Gardens now belong to the City of Malaga. Originally the creation of the Marquis and Marchioness of Loring, their creation dates from 1855.
The huge array of tropical and subtropical flora here is impressive, with plant species covering the whole spectrum from Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Taken as a whole, including the historical garden and surrounding agricultural land and forest, Jardin Botanico La Concepcion covers 49 hectares.

You can wander independently around the gardens, or take one of the guided tours (see weblink right for details). Group tours need to be booked in advance (tel. 952 25 21 48). A shop and cafeteria is on-site. The main Historical Garden is Romantic in style covering 3 hectares, with main attraction the collection of palm trees. Take a walk down Hibiscus Avenue, which promises to bring a smile to any face. Other botanical garden highlights include the stunning woodland areas, magnolias, pines, cedars and look out for the 7 bough date tree and the huge Chilean palm, one of the biggest in Spain. Archaeological finds, particularly Roman, are also on display in the on-site Loring Museum.
