Costa del Sol Tourism Guide - Mijas Costa Golf

Mijas Costa just to the west of Fuengirola is increasingly building its reputation as a luxury Costa Del Sol golf holiday resort - more golf courses sit on the Costa Del Sol stretch between Fuengirola and Marbella than any other area. There are three distinctive regions in the Mijas area - Mijas Pueblo - the inland and elevated village promoted as a typical Andalucian village and popular with daytrippers, and the Las Lagunas and Cala de Mijas areas. The Cala or Costa Mijas area occupying the beach front is the tourist rich area where you'll find many of the luxury golf courses. Find Mijas Tourist Information on Plaza Virgen de la Pena, Mijas, Malaga. Tel. 952 48 5900.

Pretty Mijas village just 8km north of Fuengirola retains much of its pueblo feel and has Muslim origins, with narrow streets, and whitewashed homes. Mijas is a popular day trip location for visitors from Fuengirola and elsewhere on the Costa Del Sol. The village has its own museum, Casa Museo de Mijas on Calle Malaga (admission is free, tel. 952 59 03 80. Well worth a look, the museum digs deep into life here before the area developed into a tourist mecca. Mijas village is of muslim origin - the Iglesia de la Concepcion Inmaculada on Plaza de la Constitucian was built on the site of a mosque.
