Around Nerja on the Costa Del Sol's east coast are a selection of smaller and slightly quieter resorts. Torrox Costa is one such popular resort base, with pretty inland Torrox village situated 4km inland.
Torrox Costa has good resort facilities, and is renowned for its Roman necropolis remains.
Situated in the souther area of La Axarquia, pretty Torrox village inland from its coastal resort sister Torrox Costa is framed by the Tejeda and Almijara mountain ranges and 145 metres above sea level.
The Romans set up shop in this area calling it Faro or Punta de Torero and various Roman remains in the area hint at this history. Remains of both a Roman bathhouse and necropolis have been found.
The village of Torrox today is a pretty whitewashed one. popular with day-trippers up from the coast.
