All of Spain's major holiday destinations and regions are served by their own Spanish Airports, making for quick transfer times into resorts. Cheap flights to Barcelona choice is superb, and Barcelona's Airport, one of the busiest in Spain, can be less than a 15 minute drive from Barcelona city centre (on a good day/traffic congestion can be a problem so allow yourself plenty of time here). Travellers to Spain, including the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands, are advised that the Spanish Government has now introduced new requirements for airlines to provide personal information on passengers to the Spanish authorities prior to aircraft departure from the UK. This requirement is referred to as Advance Passenger Information (API or APIS data), and has been effective for travellers to the United States since 2005. For comprehensive details on these new API requirements see the Department for Transport's web guide right.
Each of the Spanish Costas has their own airport, with some now having a choice of two. For the Costa del Sol it's cheap flights to Malaga or for Inland Andalucia you've a choice of Granada, Seville and Cadiz Airports. For the Costa Almeria its a short transfer time from Almeria Airport. For the ever popular Costa Blanca, cheap flights to Alicante, or for La Manga and Murcia look to Murcia Airport. Valencia Flights serve the top end of the Costa Blanca (Gandia/Oliva), plus the Costa Azahar to the north for resorts such as Peniscola and Alcoceber. Watch this one though, as Castellon Airport is due to open 2008 so direct flights with shorter transfer from Costa Azahar centre Castellon should be on the way shortly. For cheap flights to the Costa Dorada look to Reus Airport and Barcelona Airport. At the northern end of Spain's Mediterranean coast, the Costa Brava is served by cheap flights to Girona.
Barcelona Airport's passenger traffic has just more than doubled between 1997 and 2007, and is set to increase further. At 2006 annual passengers passing through had overtaken the 30 million mark. Needless to say, terminal extensions are underway at Barcelona, one of Spain's busiest Airports. Situated just 3km from Barcelona port and 12km from Barcelona City Centre to the south west of Barcelona, the airport is entrance for not just the huge number of international and national visitors to Barcelona but also visitors heading for the Costa Dorada and in some cases the Costa Brava resorts.
The choice of cheap flights to Barcelona often depends on timing - during popular holiday periods like school holidays and holiday weekends flight prices can increase. (contact the Iknow Holidays Booking team for assistance, as sometimes if you're flexible over a few days you're likely to get a cheaper rate!) See also Cheap Flights Spain weblink for flight comparisons to Barcelona online. Taxis from Barcelona Airport to Barcelona city centre are cheap (find yellow taxis outside all the terminal buildings). Give yourself plenty of time if you're returning from Barcelona city centre to Barcelona Airport to catch a flight. Watch for rushhour periods in Barcelona and the surrounding motorway network. Barcelona city centre is heavily congested with traffic from around 7am to 10am and in the evening from around 4.30pm to 7pm. Traffic in Barcelona is busy always, but occasionally changes to gridlock, especially around Monument Colon during these peak periods.

Before Alicante Airport opened officially to international passengers in 1967, the few passengers braving the trek had to come down from Valencia. In 1996 Alicante was extensively refurbished - it needed it as it pushed up towards 9 million passengers annually.
